Minister launches new era for homebuyers in Wales
Julie James also spoke about her support for the New Homes Ombudsman as a vital step in securing consumer confidence while also recognising the good work of developers and their vital role in delivering housing aspiration in Wales.
Speaking at the event Leon Livermore, Chief Executive of the New Homes Quality Board said,
“I welcome the fact that over 130 developers have already registered with us – that includes Welsh firms and UK wide companies that build in Wales. Now I’d encourage those that have yet to do so to get on board too rather than be left behind. Being registered with the NHQB will provide a builder’s customers with confidence in them and their product and I encourage those not yet signed up to do so.
“I would also like to thank Julie for her support and kind words about the launch of the code. Partnership is going to be crucial as we embed the Code with developers and promote its value to consumers. We certainly heard loud and clear that Wales is ready and I look forward to continuing our work with colleagues in the Senedd”.
Mark Harris, HBF Wales said;
“The new requirements are incredibly challenging for our industry. Housebuilders have had to make huge changes to all of their operating processes and systems and retrain tens of thousands of their staff to enable them to comply with the new arrangements.
“The step change they will provide will deliver significant improvements to the quality of homes and the service provided to purchasers, and robust redress in the event the builder does not live up to the exacting requirements of the new code.
“These changes will ensure that customers purchasing one of the energy efficient new build homes being built in Wales today, can do so with confidence. We welcome today’s launch and will continue to support the work of the New Homes Quality Board as it moves forward.”
